BOTANIC ALTARS BOTANIC ALTARS BA PROJECT 2024 Stoneware, glass, water, organic material These ceramic sculptures serve as sanctuaries, offering shelter, water, and nutrition for struggling urban insects, and reconnecting humans in the city with the natural world around them. Over a 27-year period, we have lost 74% of insect biomass, threatening pollination and waste decomposition, vital for our crops and ecosystem. Botanic Altars puts insects and their native host plants, often mistaken for weeds, on the pedestal they deserve, showcasing their essential role in the circularity of life on earth. LET THEM EAT CAKE LET THEM EAT CAKE Stoneware, repurposed window glass, silver A sculptural exploration of hyperfemininity and the socio-normative stigma surrounding embodied in a ceramic boudoir. Inspired by 18th-century France and Marie-Antoinette’s life at Versailles, these works represents a positive space for exploring oneself from a new perspective. The innovative use of recycled window glass, combined with techniques such as extruding and slab building, enhances the project’s economic efficiency. The gradual melting of window glass into a ceramic extruded frame, reaching no more than 650 degrees, results in the characteristic convex form of the mirrors and successes to combine glass and ceramic.
